Using Technology in Audit

Course outline:

This course gives an overview of the different technological tools which can be utilised when undertaking an audit engagement. While the core focus is on audit data analytics, including what it is and how it can be used on audit engagements, wider technological tools will also be considered, including:

• Smartphones, video conferencing and drones
• Cloud based deliverables management
• Open banking solutions
• Third party Microsoft Office add-ins
• Natural language processing (NLP)
• PDF tools
• Language AI models.

On completion of the course, participants will understand how audit data analytics can be applied on audit engagements and best practice considerations regarding how to document its use on an audit file and also the ethical/risk management considerations when using technology on audit engagements.

It should be noted this course does not focus on a particular application for data analytics, rather it considers general principles which would be relevant for a typical audit engagement be this using a dedicated application or manually applied analytics (such as spreadsheet analysis).
