Course outline:

This course provides an annual overview of the rules surrounding the taxation of benefits in kind and expenses for employees. The specific rules and changes in place for the tax years 2026/27 and 2027/28 will be covered, along with the NICs implications and filing requirements.

Payrolling of benefits will be the main focus from an administrative perspective but P11Ds will still be covered in respect of the exempted benefits. The focus is on the annual compliance practicalities and is not a comprehensive guide on how benefits are calculated.

Specifically, the following practical issues will be considered:

  • New developments for 2026/27
  • The introduction of payrolling for benefits and expenses
  • Reporting of benefits exempted from mandatory payrolling
  • Class 1 or Class 1A for National Insurance
  • Expense reporting - understanding the statutory exemption
  • Common pitfalls and problem areas when calculating and reporting key benefits
  • Looking ahead to 2027/28
