Conference speakers
Nick Wright, FCA, CTA, is a Director and Head of Corporate Tax at Jerroms Miller Specialist Tax, an award winning firm of tax advisers providing support to accountants, tax advisers, solicitors and their clients.
Nick specialises in complex corporate tax matters, including:
- Transactions tax and company reconstructions
- Succession planning including Employee Ownership Trusts and Management Buyouts
- Venture Capital tax reliefs, in particular EIS and SEIS
- Employment Related Securities and employee share schemes
Nick is a regular contributor to various tax journals including Taxation magazine, Tax Journal, Tax Adviser and ICAEW Taxline, sharing his expertise with the broader professional community. Nick is also contributing author of Tolley Tax Planning and the Finance Act Handbook publications.
Presenting regular lectures to fellow professionals through various CPD providers, including 2020 Innovation, MBL, CPDStore and a variety of CIOT and ICAEW branches.
Nick is host of “The Tax Hour”, a podcast dedicated to sharing expert tax advice from the industry’s leading specialists.
James joined Mercia in October 2022 as VAT trainer and consultant. His role involves writing technical material as well as devising and delivering VAT training courses. James has a wide experience of VAT and indirect tax, beginning his VAT career with HM Customs & Excise (as it then was) before moving to the private sector in 1995 and gaining his CTA qualification. Latterly, he had VAT partner and head of VAT roles in Grant Thornton and Mazars. James was actively involved with the Charity Tax Group for a number of years and has presented on VAT topics for the Charity Finance Group.
Outside of work, music remains a keen interest. Aside from playing jazz on the tenor sax, James is a regular member of the trumpet section of several big bands.
Steve is a director at Leavitt Walmsley Associates, a firm of chartered certified accountants based in Sale and Warrington. Steve specialises in financial reporting (UK GAAP and IFRS) and auditing and is the author of several books in this area. Steve also works closely with ACCA producing technical material for member firms and represents the Northwest on ACCA's Practitioners Panel.
