Professional Skills for Trainees - Year 1

Course outline:

This tutor-led, practical workshop is designed to equip students with the essential skills for their first year as a trainee, while enhancing and building on existing knowledge. It focuses on strengthening core workplace skills, increasing confidence, and supporting continued development in a professional environment.

• Building on your experience to refine your communication, expressing ideas clearly, contributing confidently, and taking initiative while maintaining professionalism and respecting intergenerational diversity with colleagues and clients.
• Developing curiosity and effective questioning techniques to help gain deeper understanding, clarify information, and make the most of everyday workplace situations. This includes asking insightful questions and showing a genuine interest in learning and improvement.  
• Improving your assertiveness skills to help you communicate confidently and respectfully, express your views clearly, and contribute effectively.  
• Preparing for feedback by learning how to receive and respond to feedback in a positive and professional way, understanding its importance for personal development, and using feedback to improve performance and skills.  
• Developing the ability to work effectively with others in a team by understanding different roles, contributing positively, supporting colleagues, and building respectful and productive working relationships.
