Course outline:
Who should attend
The course is aimed at those who undertake the work on Solicitors' records. It is suitable for people who are involved in the fieldwork on these assignments. However, it will also serve as a useful refresher for those who are involved in the review process, as it will focus on the types of problems often missed by staff completing these assignments.
It is not suitable for people with no prior experience of the SRA Accounts Rules as a basic understanding of those rules is required. People seeking an introduction to the Rules are advised to attend An Introduction to SRA Accounts Rules.
Objectives of the course
Historically, breaches of the Accounts Rules have been very common and whilst most are not serious enough to result in a qualified report it is important they are identified so that the Reporting Accountant can make an informed decision.
This course addresses common and practical problems under the SRA Accounts Rules and can be also be used as a refresher of those rules.
Course content
The content is a workshop based format involving discussion and practical examination via case studies, of examples of non-compliance with the Rules including:
- problems with bank reconciliations
- mis-treatment of disbursements - professional and other
- transfers of costs and withdrawals from client account
- identification of risk areas
- identification and treatment of breaches
