Review of Recent Feedback from Auditing Monitoring Bodies

Since R&D tax credits were introduced in April 2000 there have been numerous changes to the regime and there have also been a number of compliance issues, with HMRC looking more closely at claims. In addition, the regime is to be completely revamped from 2024.

Course outline:

This course will update delegates on the key findings from audit monitoring visits by the various regulators – particularly the QAD and FRC. 

The course will include a discussion of public reports produced by the regulators and consider how firms can effectively ensure their own files do not contain these weaknesses. There will also be consideration of areas the regulators are likely to focus on in future. 

The exact content of the course will depend on recent regulatory reports, but examples are: 

  • Audit documentation  
  • Audit evidence 
  • Risk assessment  
  • Key areas of weakness (e.g. completeness of income, work in progress  
  • Challenging the client 
  • Documenting audit decisions 
  • Going concern evaluation and disclosure  
  • Disclosure errors  
  • Engaging clients  
  • Use of sample sizes
