Practical Workshops

Give your juniors the best start in their training

Our Practical Workshops give you the flexibility to train junior members of your team in basic principles across a range of topics. These include Accounting and Auditing, Personal and Business Tax and other niche areas such as Charities, FCA clients and SRA Accounts Rules.

Book onto our highly practical workshops and benefit from:

  • Varied ways of learning - our lecturers use visuals, exercises and role play scenarios
  • Small intimate training groups - allowing for your team's individual needs to be met
  • Career development and progression from first starting out to becoming fully qualified

Our Practical Workshops are now available through Mercia Live (our virtual classrooms), on-demand or as face to face workshops (when guidance allows).

In House courses are also available, tailor-made to your teams' specific requirements and designed to your own company's procedures.

Don't forget, if you are already a Whole Firm Member, our face to face, Mercia Live and on-demand practical workshops are included as part of your membership. You can simply book on to our practical workshops using your online account.

Available in a variety of different formats, our practical workshops include:

Mercia Live

Complementing our usual programme of practical workshops, the addition of Mercia Live offers enhanced and greater flexibility.

With additional dates and timings to choose from, our virtual classroom solution still includes activities you would expect on a face to face practical workshop, including case studies and question and answer opportunities.

Through a mixture of practical tuition and case studies, our on-demand practical workshops will provide your team with the skills to fulfil their roles.

We have a range of interactive e-learning modules, including quizzes throughout and a test at the end to ensure clear understanding. Our updates and niche area workshops are also available as recorded webinars, which you can watch at your own pace.

Face to face

We will continue to monitor the government guidance closely. We sincerely hope that we can return to venues from 1 August 2021 and will keep you updated with any changes.

When back at venues, we will ensure measures are put in place to help keep you safe and well.

If you book a Mercia Live Practical Workshop you will receive Joining Instructions one week before the course date which will include a link to the course.

For our face to face events, members are still required to book a place to ensure that we send sufficient course materials and have sufficient space for you at our venue. Members need to book a place on a Mercia Live course in order to receive joining instructions with the link to the course. On-demand recorded webinars need not be booked unless you wish to receive a reminder of the courses being released. You can access your on-demand courses in your Account Area of the website.

We appreciate that it may not be possible to attend every course that you have booked. Out of courtesy to other clients, please notify us in writing or via an email with a read receipt within 14 days of a course running if you or any of your team are unable to attend a public course or live webinar on which they have previously been booked. Our full terms and conditions for course cancellations and swaps can be found here. Where individuals from a firm are booked to attend 10 or more courses, yet they fail to attend 50% or more, and do not give us written confirmation within 14 days of the course(s) that they are cancelling, Mercia reserves the right to charge the firm a cancellation fee equal to half of the published course fee.

Course credits may be reinstated into your credit bank or transferred to a new Mercia Live or face to face course or on-demand recordings as follows:

    • For a cancellation of a course place booked using course credits, we require 14 days' notice in writing or by email with a read receipt. Your course credits will be reinstated into your credit bank to use against future course bookings. Your credits will remain valid for 24 months from the date of purchase.
    • We must be notified of course swaps in writing or by email with a read receipt at least nine days in advance of the course. When making a course swap your course credits will be allocated to the new course place
    • Where shorter notice is given, Mercia reserves the right to refuse the request.
