Rachel has been advising GP practices for over 15 years. She heads up the healthcare litigation team at VWV and routinely advises on partnership disputes, disputes with commissioners (including financial disputes and allegations of contractual breach), disputes with landlords (including disputes with CHP and NHS PS over service charges), judicial review, challenging the CQC, procurement challenges, fitness to practise / performers list action and general commercial litigation.
Rachel is part of a wider healthcare team at VWV which covers the whole range of services to primary care and includes experts on partnership agreements, mergers, property matters, employment issues, insolvency and tax.
Nick Stevenson qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1994, has worked in the healthcare sector ever since, looking after hundreds of GPs, GP partnerships and PCNs. He is a partner at MHA. Nick is responsible for the East Midlands healthcare team and has a network of connections throughout the medical sector. He regularly presents at events on an array of topics including maximising practice profitability, strategic planning and tax considerations. Nick also contributes articles to the medical press including the Medical Practitioners chapter for Tolley’s Tax Planning book. Away from the office Nick enjoys spending time with his wife, Sarah and his three boys. He is also a long-suffering Notts County supporter!
Adam is a highly regarded chartered surveyor with expertise in the primary health care property sector. He acts for numerous GP practices as well as property developers, investors, banks and pharmacy operators. Much of his time is spent on the development of new medical centres but he also undertakes valuations, rent reviews and investment transactions.
Adam is often brought in to help find solutions to resolve property issues and partnership disputes within GP practices, pharmacies, and dentists. He provides advice to GP practices, landlords, NHS organisations as well as property developers. With professional pragmatism, he advises on various lease issues and valuation challenges.
Adam formed Primary Care Surveyors in 2009, with the aim of providing a high-quality service in this niche market.
Jimmy is a Tax Director at MHA specialising in indirect taxes. He recently joined the firm having spent several years working alongside a large healthcare accounting team. He has advised a wide variety of healthcare clients including incorporated and unincorporated PCNs, sole practitioner and partnership practices, limited liability practices, medical centres and dispensing practices.
He advises on all aspects of VAT specific to the sector, including the liability of income to VAT, the operation and implementation of cost sharing groups, VAT recovery on costs, compliance with VAT and partial exemption issues.
Mike, who is a Chartered Certified Accountant and Head of Dental at UNW LLP, has over 10 years of experience in working with dental professionals. Mike has overall responsibility for over 500 practice clients and is actively involved in advising clients in respect of accounts, practice purchases/sales and restructuring.
Alongside his dental accounting experience, Mike has a wealth of experience in NHS contracts, net pensionable earnings, tax affairs, exit strategies, and retirement planning. He is also a member of NASDAL (National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants and Lawyers) and ASPD (Association of Specialist Providers to Dentistry) and regularly provides accounting and taxation updates to national specialist healthcare lenders.
Mike is the editor of the quarterly NASDAL goodwill survey which analyses all member client practice sales, purchases and valuations.
Melanie is a Chartered Accountant who has worked with doctors for 20 years. She has been a Partner in a large accountancy firm, looking after GP Practices from single handers through to 50000 list super practices. She has also advised many Primary Care networks, Federations, Locums and Consultants. She is now a partner in the Pow Thomas Partnership LLP, a practice providing hands on financial support to GP organisations and project support for advisors. She acts as an outsourced Finance Director to GP Practices and ad-hoc advice on specific projects e.g. financial disputes, mergers, de-mergers, premises funding. She also provides training on finance to GP's and works with Medics Money to support their doctor network.
